Unvented Hot Water

G3-qualified installation, servicing and repair of unvented hot water cylinders.

Unvented Hot Water

Mains-pressure hot water is one of the best upgrades a home can have: proper showers upstairs, no cold tank in the loft, fast reheat. The catch is that an unvented cylinder stores water under pressure, so the law treats it differently. Installing or working on one is controlled under the Building Regulations (Approved Document G3) and needs a specifically qualified engineer. Ours are G3 qualified, and it’s work we do week in, week out.

It doesn’t matter what heats it, either. Because we work across gas, oil and LPG as well as plumbing, the same firm that looks after your boiler can look after the cylinder, whether that’s a Megaflo in an airing cupboard or twin cylinders in a plant room. And if you’ve already got one, the most important thing on this page is the annual safety check below.

Unvented hot water services offered

An unvented cylinder is very safe when it’s installed and looked after properly, because several layers of protection stand between you and a fault: the pressure reducing valve, the expansion vessel, the relief valves, and the tundish and discharge pipework that give excess water a safe way out. Each of those needs checking regularly. That’s what the annual service is for, and it’s the job most often skipped.

  • Annual unvented safety checks — relief valves tested, expansion vessel pressure checked and recharged, tundish and discharge pipework inspected
  • Repairs: dripping tundish, loss of pressure, lukewarm water, slow reheat, noisy cylinders and failed immersion heaters
  • New unvented cylinder installations from well-known makes such as Megaflo and Telford, sized properly for your household
  • Vented-to-unvented conversions — swap the loft tank and gravity cylinder for mains-pressure hot water
  • Expansion vessels, pressure reducing valves and immersion elements replaced
  • Discharge pipework corrected where an older install doesn’t meet current Building Regs
  • Cylinder checks for landlords, arranged alongside the annual gas safety visit
  • Commercial and plant room cylinders as well as domestic airing cupboards

If your cylinder’s due a service, dripping from somewhere it shouldn’t be, or you’re weighing up a switch to mains-pressure hot water, ring 01622 474008 or request a call back. We’ll talk it through and give you a firm price for your property before anything’s booked.

Our Testimonials

We love our clients and they love our work. Our team is very experienced in both residential and commercial projects.

I have used Plumbusters for years for servicing my boiler and some great small jobs. This time it was a new boiler moved up two flights of stairs. All work was neat and tidy, with some fantastic pipe work, like a work of art. Considering the effort to take up carpet and floorboards, there are no corners cut and the best job done, not the quickest job just to move on to the next customer. Even the outside plastering of the old outlet pipe was made to look like bricks! At the end there was a full walk through to make sure everything was working and 2 follow up checks. Great job.

Having only just moved into a new home, we were reliant upon recommendation by the previous owners. Plumbusters have been remarkably responsive and did an amazing job that turned out to be far more than first anticipated. We now have a swanky streamline vertical radiator in our family room along with two extra radiators on two upstairs bedrooms. Faultlessly clean, Grant gets our vote today. Thanks to you all. Now have you down as our preferred company for all things plumbing related. Best wishes. Mike & Joanne
